where to add bleach to front loading washer?

I am in a rented apartment with a front loading washer. there are 3 compartments in the drawer that pulls out. I add my detergent to the middle compartment. the compartment furthest to the right always seems to be full of water. Is it safe to put bleach in the same compartment where I usually put the detergent? Thank you
